Ifeanyi Ihemekwele Eyes Stronger Second Half as Enyimba Targets NPFL Revival

Ifeanyi Ihemekwele Eyes Stronger Second Half as Enyimba Targets NPFL Revival

Enyimba forward Ifeanyi Ihemekwele has expressed satisfaction with his performance in the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup while promising an even stronger outing for the People’s Elephant in the second stanza of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The 23-year-old striker made a mark in his debut CAF Confederation Cup season, scoring four goals and proving to be a vital asset for the Aba-based club. Reflecting on his experience, Ihemekwele shared his enthusiasm and optimism for the club’s future.

“I feel good scoring four goals on the continent, especially in my first CAF Confederation Cup season. It’s an experience I’ll cherish, but now our focus is firmly on the league,” he told the club’s media team.

Ihemekwele assured fans that Enyimba will approach the second half of the season with renewed vigor. “For the league’s second stanza, we are coming back stronger. It will be tough for every team we face. The fresh ideas from our technical team and adjustments to our game have made us a stronger unit. We’re ready to redeem ourselves,” he added confidently.

Enyimba, currently seventh on the NPFL table with 27 points from 17 matches, have faced inconsistencies this season. However, with Ihemekwele’s form and the team's determination, they are aiming for a significant turnaround. Their next challenge comes against Kano Pillars in a rescheduled fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Opinion: Can Enyimba Restore Their Dominance?

Ihemekwele’s emergence as a dependable scorer is a bright spot in what has been a mixed season for Enyimba. His confidence and commitment to improving the team’s fortunes are exactly what the People's Elephant need to reignite their title charge.

However, football is a team sport, and individual brilliance must align with collective strategy. Enyimba’s technical team has an opportunity to capitalize on the lessons from the first stanza, addressing defensive frailties and tactical lapses.

As they prepare to face Kano Pillars—a team currently enjoying good form—this fixture could set the tone for the remainder of Enyimba’s season. If they can secure a win, it may be the springboard they need to reclaim their place among the NPFL’s elite.

Will Enyimba’s resurgence take shape under Ihemekwele’s growing influence? The second stanza promises thrilling action as the race for NPFL supremacy heats up.

What do you think? Can Enyimba bounce back and dominate the league, or is the road to redemption steeper than expected? Share your thoughts!
