Charly Boy Advises Nigerian Celebrities to Keep Private Lives Off Social Media

Veteran Nigerian singer and activist, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, has weighed in on the ongoing marital crisis between 2Baba and Annie Idibia, urging celebrities to keep their private affairs out of the public eye.

In a recent interview with TVC, the outspoken entertainer sympathized with the couple, but emphasized that personal matters should be handled behind closed doors rather than being played out on social media.

“Keep Your Business Private” – Charly Boy

Addressing the increasing trend of celebrities sharing their relationship struggles online, Charly Boy stated:

“I feel sorry for the couple [2Baba and Annie Idibia]. It’s unfortunate. But my advice would be, can we just keep our business private, away from the public?”

He further noted that social media has drastically changed how people handle personal issues, but emphasized that the responsibility still lies with individuals.

“Social media has changed a lot, but it’s up to the people, too. I’m not talking from a saintly perspective. I have had quarrels with my partner, but we settle in the room privately.”

Speaking about his own relationship, the septuagenarian boasted that even if he and his wife ever decided to part ways, the public wouldn’t hear a word about it.

“You don’t bring it outside to the public to settle. I think that’s wrong because if I were to stop living with my wife today, nobody would know about it. I won’t make noise about it.”

Opinion: Should Celebrities Share Their Private Lives Online?

Charly Boy’s advice raises an important question: In an era where social media thrives on personal drama, should celebrities keep their private lives truly private?

While some argue that public figures owe transparency to their fans, others believe that constant exposure to public scrutiny can damage relationships further. Once private matters become public, they invite unnecessary opinions, judgments, and often, cyberbullying.

However, it’s also true that some celebrities deliberately use their personal lives to remain relevant in the media, creating a cycle where drama becomes part of their brand.

Final Thoughts: A Lesson in Privacy?

While it may be difficult for celebrities to keep their personal lives completely private, choosing to handle sensitive matters offline could protect their relationships from external pressures and unnecessary drama.

Perhaps the real lesson from Charly Boy’s advice is simple: Just because you can share everything online doesn’t mean you should.
