Casemiro Reveals He Urged Real Madrid to Sign Mbappé in 2022
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has revealed that he personally urged Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to sign Kylian Mbappé after facing the French superstar in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League.
Casemiro, a key figure in Madrid's midfield at the time, was left in awe of Mbappé’s unstoppable performance in the Round-of-16 clash between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Mbappé’s Impact in the Champions League Tie
Despite Madrid securing a 3-2 aggregate victory, Mbappé was a constant menace:
First leg (Paris): Mbappé scored the only goal in a 1-0 PSG win.
Second leg (Madrid): He doubled PSG’s aggregate lead before Madrid pulled off an incredible comeback thanks to Karim Benzema’s second-half hat-trick.
Madrid eventually went on to win the Champions League, defeating Liverpool 1-0 in the final.
Casemiro’s Plea to Florentino Pérez
In a recent interview with Diario AS, Casemiro admitted that after the PSG tie, he directly told Pérez to sign Mbappé.
"Did I ask for Mbappé to be signed after the match at the Parc des Princes? Yes. I spoke to the president and told him: ‘Sign him, it’s impossible to stop him.’"
Mbappé Joins Madrid, Casemiro Leaves
Although Madrid didn’t sign Mbappé immediately, the Frenchman finally joined Los Blancos on a free transfer two seasons later. Meanwhile, Casemiro left Madrid in the summer of 2022 to join Manchester United.
