A$AP Rocky Set to Be Part of Tranmere Rovers Takeover After Court Acquittal

The proposed takeover of English League Two club Tranmere Rovers is nearing completion, with American rapper A$AP Rocky reportedly part of the investment consortium leading the deal.

This development comes shortly after Rocky was acquitted of two felony assault charges related to a 2021 altercation in Hollywood. The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers, was found not guilty on Tuesday.

£15 Million Takeover in Final Stages

According to Sky Sports, the takeover of Tranmere Rovers, currently owned by Mark Palios, has been in progress for nearly a year. The investment group—which includes A$AP Rocky—is set to acquire over 80% of the club, with a £15 million valuation placed on the deal.

Despite the change in majority ownership, Indonesian investors Santini Group will retain their minority stake and remain involved in the club’s operations at Prenton Park.

Opinion: A Bold Move for Tranmere Rovers?

A$AP Rocky’s entry into football ownership follows a growing trend of high-profile celebrities investing in sports clubs, much like Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s successful takeover of Wrexham.

While some may question Rocky’s footballing ties, fresh investment could be a game-changer for Tranmere Rovers, bringing new commercial opportunities, global exposure, and financial stability.

However, football takeovers often come with high expectations. If Rocky and his consortium are serious about long-term success, they must prioritize smart management, squad investment, and strong community engagement—or risk becoming just another celebrity ownership experiment gone wrong.
