Mohbad’s Widow, Omowunmi, Speaks Out: ‘I Am the Most Bullied Widow in Nigeria’

Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has publicly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba’s demand for a DNA test on her son, Liam. Speaking on TVC’s ‘Your View’, she described herself as “the most bullied widow” in Nigeria and accused her father-in-law of turning people against her.

While Omowunmi stated that she has no issue with conducting a DNA test, she believes the way Joseph Aloba is handling the situation is problematic.

“I have nothing to hide. I don’t have an issue with my father-in-law asking me for a DNA test, but it’s the way he is going about it. Presently, I am the most bullied widow in Nigeria,” she said.

She also revealed that before her husband’s passing, she and Joseph Aloba were best friends. She further claimed that he was the one who pressured her and Mohbad into having a child earlier than planned, using fasting and prayer to convince them.

The Autopsy and Burial Delay

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, leading to widespread speculation about the cause of his death. Less than 24 hours later, his father buried him in Ikorodu, Lagos State. However, on September 21, his body was exhumed for an autopsy due to the unresolved questions surrounding his demise.

Joseph Aloba has insisted that his son will not be reburied until the autopsy results are released and a DNA test is conducted to confirm Liam’s paternity.

Opinion: A Family Tragedy Turned Public Drama

The ongoing feud between Mohbad’s widow and father has turned into a deeply publicized family crisis, drawing in fans, legal experts, and social commentators. While grief and loss can bring families closer, in this case, it has created division and distrust.

Joseph Aloba’s demand for a DNA test is within his rights as a grandfather, but the public nature of the controversy raises ethical concerns. Instead of resolving personal matters privately, the situation has fueled online bullying and public scrutiny, with Omowunmi bearing the brunt of it.

In such a delicate time, shouldn’t the priority be justice for Mohbad rather than personal disputes? Whatever the outcome, this tragic situation is a reminder of the impact of fame, family tensions, and the harsh realities of life after loss.
