Kanayo O. Kanayo Calls Out Instagram Over Sudden Drop in Followers
Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has openly criticized Meta, the parent company of Instagram, over what he describes as an unfair drop in his follower count.
In a video message shared on Instagram, Kanayo expressed frustration, revealing that his followers have been reducing for months, despite his active engagement and content creation.
“For the past seven to eight months, my Instagram page followership, which was about 2.2 or 2.3 million, has dropped to 1.9 million.”
“Are You Saying I Haven’t Gained 1,000 Followers in Months?” – Kanayo
The legendary actor questioned how it was possible that he had not gained even 1,000 new followers in nearly a year. He believes the issue is not just personal, but a problem affecting many other creators.
“We are using a platform that we have no control over, and the way they are treating us is very bad.”
Kanayo then called on Instagram’s management to recognize and respect African content creators, emphasizing that their contributions benefit both the platform and its users.
Opinion: Is Instagram Silencing Creators?
Kanayo’s concern raises a larger debate about social media algorithms and control. Many creators have complained about shadow banning, suppressed engagement, and sudden follower drops, leaving them feeling powerless on platforms they helped grow.
While Instagram’s algorithm changes could be a factor, some speculate that content suppression or platform glitches might also play a role. If this is happening to high-profile figures like Kanayo, what about smaller creators who depend on Instagram for growth?
