Hamzat Ojediran Eyes Super Eagles Call-Up After Impressive Run with RC Lens

Hamzat Ojediran Eyes Super Eagles Call-Up After Impressive Run with RC Lens

Nigeria’s Hamzat Ojediran, currently playing for RC Lens in France, has set his sights on a dream call-up to the Super Eagles, expressing his desire to represent the country at the senior level.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder, who was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, has been making steady progress in his club career. After a move from Albanian club Debrecine VSC last summer, Ojediran has become a regular at Lens, tallying one goal and one assist in 11 league appearances this season.

In a recent statement, the former Golden Eaglet made his ambitions clear:

“My dream has always been to play for the Super Eagles. I have played for Nigeria at the U-17 level, and I can’t wait to have the opportunity to represent the national team at the highest level.”

A Rising Star Worth Watching

Ojediran’s development at Lens, a club known for grooming talented midfielders, is a testament to his hard work and potential. His ability to break up play, dictate the tempo, and contribute offensively makes him a versatile option for the Super Eagles.

Given Nigeria’s recent midfield struggles, particularly in the defensive role, Ojediran could offer much-needed depth. While the Super Eagles currently boast players like Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, competition for places remains open, especially as the team prepares for the next AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

Should Ojediran Get a Chance?

Ojediran’s performances at RC Lens prove that he is growing into a top-class midfielder, and his call-up could provide an opportunity for Nigeria to explore fresh talents. While he still has work to do to break into José Peseiro’s squad, his consistency in Europe could make him a strong contender for future invitations.

With time on his side and an undeniable passion for the green and white jersey, Ojediran’s Super Eagles dream may soon become a reality. The big question remains: Will he get the chance to prove himself on the national stage?
