Nollywood Mourns Again: Veteran Actor Columbus Irisoanga Passes Away
The Nigerian movie industry has been hit with another devastating loss as veteran actor Columbus Irisoanga, popularly known as ‘Igbudu’, has passed away. His death was confirmed by fellow actress and politician, Hilda Dokubo, who shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram.
Hilda Dokubo expressed her deep sorrow, describing Irisoanga’s passing as a “heavy one” for Nollywood and the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), Rivers State, where he was well-respected.
She wrote:
“There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are being called home like this! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood.”
A Dark Week for Nollywood
The news of Columbus Irisoanga’s death comes just days after the passing of another Nollywood actress, Pat Ugwu, at the young age of 35. The sudden losses have left many within the entertainment industry in shock and grief.
Opinion: The Industry Must Prioritize Health and Well-being
The back-to-back losses of talented actors raise concerns about the health and well-being of Nollywood stars. While the cause of Irisoanga’s death remains undisclosed, it is evident that health issues and inadequate medical support for veteran actors remain a significant challenge in the industry.
Nollywood has given so much joy to audiences, yet many of its legends face financial and health struggles in their later years. This should be a wake-up call for better support systems, insurance, and welfare programs for entertainers who have contributed immensely to the industry.
As fans and colleagues mourn, Columbus Irisoanga’s legacy as an actor will live on through the films and performances that touched so many hearts. May his soul rest in peace. 🕊️
