Luis Enrique: PSG Stronger in Attack and Defense Without Mbappe
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Luis Enrique has made a bold claim, stating that his team is now better in both attack and defense following Kylian Mbappe's departure to Real Madrid last summer.
Mbappe, who was PSG’s talisman for years, left on a free transfer after a trophy-laden spell in Ligue 1. Despite his absence, Enrique insists that the team has responded positively, playing at a spectacular level without the French superstar.
“I was very brave last season when I told you that we would have a better team in attack and defense,” Enrique told reporters.
“I still think that we are better in attack and defense; the numbers are there to prove it. Of course, we would have liked to keep Kylian because everyone liked Kyky, but the team has stepped up.
“Rather than having one player who scores 40 goals, I wanted a more balanced team, with multiple players contributing. That is our objective—to keep improving.”
A Different PSG Without Mbappe
There is no doubt that Mbappe’s departure left a huge void, but PSG’s attacking output this season suggests they have adapted well. The likes of Gonçalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Randal Kolo Muani have stepped up, while midfielders and defenders are also chipping in with goals.
In defense, Enrique has implemented a more structured approach, making PSG a well-rounded unit rather than a team overly reliant on one star.
Is Enrique Right? The Stats Say...
While Mbappe’s absence has undoubtedly changed PSG’s style of play, statistics do suggest that the team is more collective in its approach. More players are sharing the goal-scoring responsibility, reducing the dependence on one individual.
However, the real test will come in big games, especially in the UEFA Champions League, where Mbappe’s brilliance often made the difference.
Final Thoughts: Bold Move or Harsh Reality?
Enrique’s remarks may seem like a tactical way to boost team morale, but they also raise a key question: Is PSG truly better without Mbappe? While the numbers might show an overall improvement, the lack of a game-changing superstar in high-pressure moments could be a problem.
Time will tell whether PSG can truly thrive without their former No. 7, or if they will eventually feel his absence when it matters most. 🚀🔥
