Alex Iwobi Sets Sights on 2025 AFCON Glory with Super Eagles

Fulham winger Alex Iwobi has revealed that his biggest dream is to help Nigeria win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after falling short in the last edition.

The Super Eagles came agonizingly close to lifting the trophy in 2024, only to suffer a 2-1 defeat to hosts Côte d'Ivoire in the final. Now, Iwobi is determined to go a step further and bring the trophy back home.

“To win the AFCON—we were close the last one, we want to win the next,” Iwobi said while speaking on the podcast Is This Seat Taken? hosted by Chinansa Anukam.

Nigeria’s Road to Redemption

The 2025 AFCON, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will see Nigeria compete in Group C alongside:
Tunisia
Uganda
Tanzania

The Super Eagles will kick off their campaign against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday, January 22—a fixture that will set the tone for their tournament ambitions.

From Heartbreak to Hope: Can Nigeria Deliver?

Nigeria’s painful loss to Côte d'Ivoire in 2024 remains a bitter memory, but it also serves as fuel for redemption. The team showed flashes of brilliance last time, but lacked the cutting edge when it mattered most.

Now, with players like Iwobi, Victor Osimhen, and Samuel Chukwueze, the Super Eagles have a golden opportunity to rewrite history. However, they must address key weaknesses, including:
Squad consistency and tactical discipline
Better game management in high-pressure moments
Clinical finishing in crucial matches

Final Thought: A Dream Worth Fighting For

Iwobi’s ambition reflects the hunger within the Super Eagles camp. But dreams don’t win trophies—hard work, preparation, and execution do.

Can Nigeria rise to the occasion and bring the AFCON trophy back home after 11 years? Fans are hopeful, but only time will tell.
