Drake Tipped to Headline FIFA’s First-Ever World Cup Halftime Show in 2026
The excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to build as FIFA President Gianni Infantino has hinted at the possibility of Canadian rap icon Drake headlining the first-ever World Cup Final Halftime Show.
This comes after FIFA announced its collaboration with Coldplay’s Chris Martin to curate a Super Bowl-style halftime show for the historic final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.
Drake Set to Make World Cup History?
During an interview with Fox5, Infantino was asked about the prospect of Drake performing, given that Kendrick Lamar recently stole the spotlight at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
"So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea," Infantino responded, hinting at FIFA’s growing ambition to bring entertainment and sports together in a bigger way.
"Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities of the tournament… We will do that [sign him for the halftime show]."
Opinion: A Game-Changer for Football Entertainment
The introduction of a halftime show at a World Cup final is a bold and refreshing move by FIFA. Unlike the Super Bowl, which is known for its extravagant halftime performances, football (soccer) traditionally focuses solely on the game.
However, with the World Cup heading to North America, a region where sports and entertainment blend seamlessly, it’s no surprise that FIFA wants to elevate the spectacle.
Drake, being one of the biggest artists in the world and a proud Canadian, would be a fitting choice—especially since Canada is co-hosting the tournament alongside the US and Mexico.
If this happens, could it set a new precedent for future World Cups? Would football fans embrace the mix of music and sports at the biggest stage? Let us know what you think! ⚽🎤🔥
