Rivers United Begin Preseason Ahead of 2025/26 NPFL & CAF Champions League Campaign
Rivers United FC have officially kicked off their preparations for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, as 25 players resumed preseason training under the watchful eye of Technical Manager Finidi George at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The team was warmly welcomed back to the pitch by Finidi and his technical crew as they prepare for what promises to be a demanding season — both domestically and on the continental stage.
🛡️ Eyes on the Prize: NPFL & CAF Champions League
Following a strong second-place finish in the 2024/25 NPFL season, Rivers United secured a CAF Champions League spot alongside champions Remo Stars.
With continental football returning to Port Harcourt, the team isn’t taking chances. Preparations include an intense preseason schedule, which will feature a series of friendly matches aimed at fine-tuning strategy, chemistry, and fitness levels before the new season kicks off on August 22.
🗣️ Opinion – Is This the Season for Continental Glory?
Rivers United are no strangers to continental football, but their recent NPFL form — finishing just behind Remo Stars — shows they are more than capable of mounting a serious domestic and continental challenge.
Having a tactician like Finidi George, who recently led Enyimba to the league title before joining Rivers United, adds an extra layer of experience and leadership. His calm demeanor and tactical intelligence could be the edge Rivers need to go beyond group-stage exits and compete deep into the CAF Champions League.
This preseason is not just about fitness — it’s about belief, cohesion, and ambition.
