Iyabo Ojo Summoned by Police Over Cyberbullying Allegations Linked to Mohbad’s Death — Justice or Intimidation?
Nearly a year after the tragic and controversial passing of rising singer Mohbad, the conversation is far from over — and now, actress and activist Iyabo Ojo is back in the spotlight.
The Lagos-based star revealed on Thursday via a lengthy Instagram post that she has been invited by the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over petitions filed against her for alleged cyberbullying stemming from a 2023 live video where she called out individuals allegedly connected to Mohbad’s death.
“I was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force... over petitions bordering on cyberbullying and other allegations concerning the live video I recorded,” she shared.
“In that video, I requested certain individuals to make themselves available for investigation into Mohbad’s sudden death to prove their innocence or otherwise.”
🕯️ A Look Back: Mohbad’s Tragic Death
Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba) died in September 2023 under mysterious circumstances that sparked national outrage. Leaked videos of him being allegedly bullied by his former boss Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry stirred deep public anger.
Iyabo Ojo emerged as one of the loudest voices demanding justice, helping amplify a movement that ultimately led to the arrest of the duo in October 2023.
However, four months ago, both men were acquitted in court of direct involvement in Mohbad’s death.
💬 Our Take: When Justice Feels Like a Double-Edged Sword
Let’s be clear: justice should never be selective. If someone crosses legal lines, even in the name of advocacy, it deserves scrutiny. But this latest invitation raises questions — is Iyabo Ojo being held accountable for genuine wrongdoing, or is this a case of power pushing back against activism?
Her actions helped galvanize public awareness during a period when silence could have buried the truth. While we must uphold the rule of law, punishing citizens — especially public figures — for demanding accountability sends a dangerous message.
It’s ironic that someone who sought justice for the voiceless is now facing legal fire for doing just that.
⚖️ What’s Next?
Let the facts speak. But in doing so, the same system must also show the courage to protect whistleblowers and truth seekers, not just the influential names they challenge.
In the eyes of many, Iyabo Ojo is not just an actress, but a symbol of bold resistance against a system that sometimes struggles with transparency.
