Dayo Amusa Clears the Air on HIV Allegation, Slams Irresponsible Content Creation
Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has firmly responded to a viral video that falsely alleged she is HIV positive — a claim she describes as defamatory, ignorant, and completely unfounded.
The viral video, released by content creator Olaoluwa Segun, named Amusa alongside other Nollywood figures as HIV positive, sparking outrage online. Amusa, however, wasted no time in clearing the air.
💬 “I’m not going to let this slide. I’ll make you a scapegoat.”
In a passionate Instagram video, Amusa expressed her shock and dismay at the allegation, especially since the falsehood was built on a 2019 awareness post she made to educate people on HIV and encourage them to know their status.
“I posted about HIV awareness to educate. This was turned into a lie years later without any proof. This is beyond reckless,” she said.
She demanded that Segun present evidence of any hospital or lab result confirming his claim — which, of course, does not exist.
🔁 The Power of Misinformation
Segun has since apologized, admitting that:
He misinterpreted Amusa’s awareness efforts.
She never claimed to be HIV positive.
He failed to fact-check before posting.
The video has now been taken down.
He promised to restructure his content creation process to avoid future damage to people’s lives and reputations.
🧠 OPINION — Reckless Content Creation Needs Accountability
Dayo Amusa’s response is a bold stand for truth and dignity in a digital era where virality often overrides veracity. While HIV awareness is important and commendable, using it to mislead and defame someone without evidence is a dangerous and unethical abuse of media freedom.
Her decision to hold Segun accountable sends a strong message:
👉🏽 Being a content creator doesn’t give you the license to destroy lives.
