Stanley Eguma Laments Enyimba’s Poor Finishing Despite Narrow Win Over El-Kanemi Warriors

Stanley Eguma Laments Enyimba’s Poor Finishing Despite Narrow Win Over El-Kanemi Warriors

Enyimba’s technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, has expressed concern over his team’s wastefulness in front of goal despite their 1-0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors at the Enyimba International Stadium on Sunday. While the People’s Elephant managed to secure three points, their struggle to convert chances remains a lingering issue.

Speaking to BSN Sports, Eguma admitted that Enyimba’s inability to take their chances is worrisome, emphasizing that consistent goal-scoring is crucial for the team’s overall morale and performance.

“It’s a thing of worry. At this point in time, goals will really give us hope and motivation. If we had converted those chances, we could have played better than we did,” Eguma said.
“Defending a single goal for 90 minutes is never easy. One good thing is that we are creating chances, which means our drills and tactics are working. But now, the issue is conversion. The conversion rate has to increase so we can put away our chances.”

Opinion: Enyimba’s Lack of Clinical Finishing Could Be Costly

Eguma’s concerns are valid. While it is encouraging to see the team creating chances, their inability to convert those opportunities into goals could be detrimental in the long run. Winning games by a single goal margin leaves too much room for error, especially when they face tougher opponents who can easily punish such wastefulness.

It’s commendable that the team’s tactics and drills are producing chances, but without the finishing touch, all their effort could amount to nothing. Football, after all, is about goals, and Enyimba must address their conversion rate if they are to maintain consistency in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

A quick fix could be additional training focused on composure in front of goal and perhaps giving more responsibility to proven goal-scorers within the squad. The pressure of defending a slim lead for 90 minutes is a dangerous game, and Eguma knows it.

Can Eguma find the solution to this conversion crisis before it costs them more valuable points? The People’s Elephant must act fast if they want to stay competitive in the NPFL.

What are your thoughts on Enyimba’s current struggle? Should Eguma consider changing his attacking setup or personnel to improve their goal-scoring efficiency?
