Bukky Wright on Motherhood and Her Return to Nollywood

Bukky Wright on Motherhood and Her Return to Nollywood

Veteran Nigerian actress Bukky Wright has finally opened up about her long break from Nollywood, revealing that she stepped away to focus on raising her children abroad.

In a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright emphasized the crucial role of mothers in their children's lives, explaining that she couldn’t leave such an important responsibility to anyone else.

"My Children Needed Me"

Wright highlighted that there comes a stage in a child's life when parental presence is non-negotiable, especially in a foreign country.

"I had to leave everything to go take care of my children. There’s a time when children need you more than ever, and you have to be there yourself," she said.

She further stressed the sacrifices that mothers make, pointing out that while men play their role, the weight of child-rearing often falls more on mothers.

"You don’t want to leave your children with anybody abroad, especially at a certain age. That’s when they’ll start saying, ‘You’re not my mum, you can’t talk to me like that.’ So, be there yourself."

Returning to Nollywood

Now, after years away, Wright reassured her fans that she is back in the industry, ready to take on new roles and challenges.

"I didn’t fall out of love with acting. There are still many things I want to achieve in the industry," she affirmed.

Opinion: The Unmatched Sacrifice of Mothers

Bukky Wright’s decision to pause a thriving career for her children is a testament to the depth of a mother's love and sacrifice. In an industry where many struggle to balance fame and family, her story serves as a powerful reminder that success is not just measured by professional achievements but also by the lives we nurture.

What do you think? Should more celebrities take breaks for family, or should they find a way to balance both?
