Berbatov: Zirkzee and Hojlund ‘Lost’ Under Amorim’s System
Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, has criticized manager Ruben Amorim’s tactics, claiming that Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are struggling in his system.
Struggles Against Tottenham
United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, leaving them 15th in the Premier League table.
Zirkzee, deployed in one of the two No.10 roles behind Hojlund, failed to make an impact, with Berbatov arguing that the young duo are lost and wasting their energy.
Berbatov’s Criticism of Amorim’s 3-4-3 Setup
The former United striker pointed out that Zirkzee is dropping too deep, preventing him from utilizing his strengths. He also believes Hojlund is forced to track back too much, leaving him drained in attack.
“Zirkzee is playing out of position, running all over the place, looking lost, so you cannot use his best qualities.”
“The same for Hojlund—he is wasting all his energy tracking back to cover the space because the midfield is too far apart.”
Berbatov’s remarks raise concerns about United’s tactical setup under Amorim, as they continue to struggle in the league.
