Super Eagles Face Injury Crisis Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles Face Injury Crisis Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers has taken a worrying turn as several key players have picked up injuries just weeks before their crucial games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Raphael Onyedika, the talented Club Brugge midfielder, became the latest casualty after limping off in the 23rd minute of his club’s league match against Standard Liège on Sunday. His replacement, Casper Nielsen, took his place, but there is still no official update on the extent of his injury.

More Injury Setbacks for Nigeria

Unfortunately for the Super Eagles, Onyedika is not the only player facing fitness concerns. Two other Nigerian internationals, Semi Ajayi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, also suffered injuries over the weekend:

🔹 Semi Ajayi picked up a hamstring injury during West Brom’s 2-0 win over Oxford United on Saturday.
🔹 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru sustained an ankle injury in Lazio’s goalless draw with Venezia.

These injuries pose a major selection headache for newly appointed Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who is preparing for his first competitive matches in charge.

A Growing Concern for Nigeria?

With the World Cup qualifiers fast approaching, Chelle must now rethink his squad options, particularly in midfield and defense. Losing key players before a crucial international window is never ideal, and fans will be hoping for positive updates regarding their recovery.

The question remains—can the Super Eagles overcome these setbacks and make a strong start to their World Cup qualifying campaign? Let’s hear your thoughts! 🇳🇬⚽
