Super Eagles Coach Éric Chelle Scouts Key Players Ahead of 2026 World Cup Qualifiers
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle and his assistant, Hedi Taboubi, have begun a European scouting mission, visiting key Nigerian internationals ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The West African giants are set to face Rwanda on March 21 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, before returning home to battle Zimbabwe on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Monitoring Super Eagles Stars
Chelle and Taboubi were spotted at Stade de la Beaujoire on Friday night, watching winger Moses Simon in action for Nantes in their Ligue 1 clash against Brest. The Super Eagles winger played for 68 minutes in a match that ended in a 2-0 loss for Nantes.
Prior to that, the coaching duo had visited England-based stars Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, assessing their fitness and form ahead of the crucial qualifiers.
More Player Visits on the Agenda
Chelle and Taboubi are expected to continue their European tour, meeting with more Super Eagles players in their respective clubs next week. This hands-on approach signals the coach’s commitment to assembling the best squad possible as Nigeria aims to secure a World Cup spot.
Opinion: A Step in the Right Direction?
Nigeria’s slow start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with two draws in their first two games, has raised concerns. However, Chelle’s proactive scouting mission shows a renewed focus on preparation and squad cohesion.
With strong performances from key players and a solid tactical approach, the Super Eagles could bounce back and dominate their group.
