Bendel Insurance Midfielder Anthony Nnamdi Out for Eight Weeks After Brutal Injury
Bendel Insurance midfielder Anthony Nnamdi is set to be sidelined for at least eight weeks after sustaining a brutal injury during their matchday 24 clash against Niger Tornadoes.
The Benin-based club confirmed the unfortunate news, revealing that Nnamdi suffered internal bleeding after a rough challenge from Tornadoes' goalkeeper, Joshua Enaholo, who struck him in the chest with his boot.
Bendel Insurance’s media director, Kehinde Osagiede, spoke to TalkTalk Nigeria on Tuesday, confirming the midfielder's condition:
“No injury except our midfielder Anthony Nnamdi who was brutally injured by Tornadoes goalkeeper. He left the hospital three days ago and will be absent for two months.”
Nnamdi was rushed to the Edo State Specialist Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Fortunately, he has now been discharged, but the road to full recovery will take time.
A Tough Blow for Bendel Insurance
Nnamdi’s injury is a significant setback for Bendel Insurance, as the team looks to maintain momentum in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). His absence will undoubtedly be felt in the midfield, where he has been a crucial player throughout the season.
The incident raises concerns about player safety in the NPFL, especially regarding reckless tackles and officiating standards. While physicality is part of football, reckless challenges that endanger players' lives must be seriously addressed.
As Nnamdi begins his recovery journey, fans and teammates will be hoping for a strong comeback. His return will not only boost Bendel Insurance but also remind everyone of the resilience that defines true champions.
For now, all thoughts are with the midfielder as he recovers from this unfortunate setback.
