Super Falcons Set for Lisbon Departure Ahead of Friendly vs Portugal, Eyes on 10th WAFCON Title
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will depart for Lisbon on Saturday, as they continue their preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Nigerian women’s national team, led by head coach Justine Madugu, are scheduled to face Portugal in a high-profile international friendly on Monday — a key test of readiness before their continental campaign begins.
🌍 WAFCON Preparations in Full Swing
After the Portugal game, the Super Falcons will immediately head to Morocco, where they will wrap up their final camp and face Ghana’s Black Princesses in another friendly encounter.
According to The Super Falcons Show, this dual friendly setup is aimed at sharpening tactical fluidity and boosting team chemistry before Nigeria kicks off their WAFCON run.
🏆 Chasing Glory: Can Nigeria Make It 10?
Already the most successful team in WAFCON history with nine titles, the Super Falcons are hungry to reclaim their throne after losing the last edition to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
In Group B, they’ll face Tunisia (July 6), Botswana, and Algeria, with all matches to be played at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
“This is not just about winning — it’s about reminding the continent that Nigeria is still the queen of African football,” a camp official told TalkTalk Nigeria.
💬 OPINION: Focus, Firepower, and Female Pride
This is more than a tournament. It’s a statement. Nigeria’s women are not just aiming for a trophy — they are playing for legacy, for inspiration, and for the respect that their consistency and achievements demand.
With stars like Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and a blend of young blood, the Super Falcons might just be on the cusp of a perfect storm in Morocco.
