Gary Lineker Hails Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch as a Surprise Star of the Season
Former England and Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, calling him “one of the surprises of the season.”
Gravenberch, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich last summer, has quickly become a key player for Jurgen Klopp's squad, impressing fans and pundits alike with his technical ability and attacking presence.
Lineker’s Take on Gravenberch
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker highlighted both Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai as standout performers this season:
“Those two [Gravenberch and Szoboszlai] have been terrific this season. I think probably Gravenberch has been one of the surprises of the season.”
He also revealed that new Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared similar sentiments in a recent interview:
“Even Arne Slot said he was surprised how good he was when he came in, when I spoke to him in the interview a couple of weeks ago. He’s been superb, as has Szoboszlai—both dangerous players.”
Gravenberch’s Impact at Liverpool
Since arriving at Anfield, Gravenberch has provided depth and creativity in Liverpool’s midfield, forming a strong partnership with Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. While he struggled for regular game time at Bayern, the Dutch international has flourished under Klopp’s system, proving to be a shrewd acquisition.
With Liverpool currently leading the Premier League title race, Gravenberch’s contributions could be vital as the Reds push for multiple trophies this season.
What’s Next for Liverpool?
Liverpool will look to continue their strong form when they face Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup Fourth Round on Sunday, February 9.
